PATACHITRA SCROLL PAINTERS

Patachitra is an Indian folk art form. The Patachitra artists, or 'Patua' paint long scrolls, depicting stories from the religious epics and current affairs. There are many differing versions of the history of Patachitra scroll painting, but the tradition goes back to at least the 13th Century. Traditionally, the Patuas travelled between villages, singing stories to accompany their painted scrolls.
